I have insurance but cannot afford my deductible. I am supposed to test for narcolepsy and fear that I will lose my job or get injured without treating it. I can't be treated without the test. Are there any cheaper alternatives to sleep studies or any other tests to diagnose sleep disorders?

I am not aware of any test that are less expensive, as a test for narcolepsy should be done in the lab in a controlled environment. You should call around to sleep disorder centers and ask if they allow discounts for cash and then discuss a payment plan. In our area, our sleep center is the only one that allows discounts for cash payment, however by law everyone is required to at least charge a certain allowable. Having said that someone should be willing to work with you. Please call me with any questions and we can discuss the options you may have if you live in our area.
