Both of my parents suffer from varying degrees of insomnia. Does this mean that I will have a higher probability of being an insomniac myself?

To date no genetic link has been identified with a Primary Insomnia. Insomnia has many etiologies including psychiatric, medical, drug related, learned physiologic causes and poor sleep hygiene. You don't necessarily have a greater chance of developing insomnia becasue they have it.

Even though there is often a family history of insomnia, a genetic component has yet to be determined.
