Vernon D. Rowe III, M.D. is a sleep physician in Kansas City, Missouri and the Medical Director of the Sleep Laboratory at the Rowe Neurology Institute, which he founded. Doctor Rowe has diagnosed and treated patients for sleep disorders for over a decade in the greater Kansas City area. He has overseen more than 12,000 polysomnography examinations. Dr. Rowe is a Diplomate of the American Board of Sleep Medicine and has also earned certification from the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology in the subspecialty of Sleep Medicine. In addition to being the Medical Director of the Rowe Neurology Institute Sleep Laboratory, Dr. Rowe is the President of the MidAmerica Neuroscience Research Foundation, which conducts groundbreaking sleep medicine research.
Doctor Rowe’s relentless desire to identify the underlying root causes of his patients’ sleep disorders has resulted in him pioneering many groundbreaking discoveries in the sleep medicine field. For instance, he pioneered changes for treating cognitive symptoms and fatigue in patients with Multiple Sclerosis.
Dr. Vernon Rowe gained his bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry and finished his medical degree at Duke University, and trained in neurology at Johns Hopkins University for his residency before becoming a research associate in developmental neurology at the National Institutes of Health (NIH). He currently holds a position in the University of Kansas Medical School as an adjunct professor in neurology.
Dr. Rowe continues to teach medical students and residents at KU while conducting research on the interactions of neuron-targets. His research has earned him a research grant approved by the National Institutes of Health, the March of Dimes Foundation and the Veterans Administration. He has authored and co-authored nuermous neurology studies.
Dr. Rowe is a member of the American Academy of Neurology, the American Medical Association, the American Board of Electrodiagnostic Medicine, the Society for Neuroscience, and the American Society for Neurochemistry. He also holds professional certifications for practicing electromyography, Nuro-MRI, and electroencephalography. He is licensed to practice medicine in Kansas, North Carolina, and Missouri. Dr Rowe founded the MidAmerica Neuroscience Research Foundation in 1996 as well as the Verrow Pharmaceuticals, Inc. in 2006. In 2002, he was a fellow at the American Academy of Neurology, while in 2011 he became a board member of the American Society for Neuroimaging.
In his spare time, Dr. Rowe loves to fly small planes and helicopters in Kansans and Missouri. He is also known for his bluegrass songwriting talents and has published a poetry book.
