Gary Zammit, Ph.D. is a respected sleep doctor in New York City. Dr. Zammit is the Executive Director of the now privatized Sleep Disorders Institute, which he founded 12 years ago as part of St. Luke’s – Roosevelt Hospital. Dr. Zammit concurrently serves as a Clinical Associate Professor at the College of Physicians and Surgeons at Columbia University. Dr. Zammit earned his Ph.D. from the University of Toledo in Toledo, Ohio. Prior to this he had earned BA and MA degrees from Oakland University in Rochester, Michigan. Following the completion of his Ph.D., Dr. Zammit conducted both his internship and fellowship training at New York Hospital – Cornell University Medical College, where he focused his studies on clinical research and sleep medicine. Dr. Zammit’s work is highly regarded among sleep and clinical pharmacology professionals. He has written 2 books and more than 150 original articles on both topics.

The Sleep Disorders Institute (SDI) is a sleep lab fully equipped to evaluate and treat sleep/wake disorders in both adults and children. The primary sleep facility has official recognition from the American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM). Among its most impressive services, the Sleep Disorders Institute features a Home Sleep Testing (HST) option for qualified patients who are referred to be tested with polysomnography while sleeping at their own homes. The Sleep Disorders Institute also has an in-office respiratory therapy staff dedicated specifically to offering fantastic CPAP distribution and support services.

In addition to seeing patients on a regular basis, the Sleep Disorders Institute is also dedicated to providing research opportunities and advanced medical training for field professionals interested in furthering experience in sleep medicine. Dr. Zammit’s involvement in the polysomnography field has made him a prominent expert in the field of sleep medicine. In 1990, Dr. Zammit was the founder of the St. Luke’s/Roosevelt Hospital Sleep Disorders Institute. Then in 2001, Dr. Zammit privatized the Sleep Disorders Institute. An author of two books and over 80 publications, Dr. Zammit has served as an editor of various esteemed medical journals such as the JAMA, Sleep, Chronobiology International, and Physiology and Behavior. Dr. Zammit has also been a consultant to biotech and pharmaceutical companies and has also been the lead investigator of more than 150 CNS clinical trials.
