When is a dental device used to treat sleep apnea?

Video Overview

Hi, my name is Dr. Dane Kinghorn. I'm a general dentist practicing dentistry at Belgrade Dental Associates. We have been serving the Gallatin Valley for ten years now. When is a dental device used to treat sleep apnea? Dental devices for sleep apnea, known as mandibular repositioning devices, are used to treat sleep apnea in a couple of different situations. Patients that have been diagnosed with mild to moderate sleep apnea can benefit greatly from the use of a mandibular repositioning device to open that airway at night for the proper flow of oxygen. Also, patients that have been treated by a sleep physician for sleep apnea and have been prescribed a CPAP, but have been found to be CPAP intolerant may then benefit greatly from the use of a mandibular repositioning device as opposed to the CPAP.
