Mark Abramson is a sleep apnea dentist and TMJ dentist who has more than 30 years of experience in dentistry. He is passionate about utilizing sleep apnea and TMJ treatments that successfully utilize non-drug, integrative approaches to restoring the health of the entire body. Dr. Abramson utilizes hands-on manipulation therapy, such as osteopathic manipulative technique, myofacial release, acupuncture, and cold laser therapy, in conjunction with more traditional therapy techniques such as lidacaine injections to muscle trigger points and splint therapy. Dr. Abramson has two convenient Northern California locations including in Monterrey and Redwood City.
Dr. Abramson is a native of Baltimore, Maryland. He earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Maryland and subsequently attended the University of Maryland School of Dentistry, graduating in 1975. After graduation, Dr. Abramson relocated to California to complete his general practice residency at the Palo Alto Veterans Hospital. After completing his residency, Dr. Abramson limited his practice to the treatment of patients suffering from facial pain, headache, and TMJ.
Dr. Abramson is a Diplomat of the American Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine, a Diplomat of the American Academy of Orofacial Pain, a Fellow of the American Academy of Craniofacial Pain Management, and a Diplomat of the Academy of Pain Management. He is also a member of the American Dental Association, Cranial Academy, and California Dental Association.
Dr. Abramson established the O2 OASYS Oral/Nasal Airway System for which he received approval from the FDA in 2004. This patented dental device is the only that treats all of the upper airway for treatment of sleep apnea and snoring. The device underwent review by the FDA’s ENT and Dental Divisions and was accepted as a pharyngeal and nasal dilator for the treatment of sleep apnea and snoring.
Dr. Abramson is extensively involved in teaching and lecturing. He teaches in the medical fields of Dental Sleep Medicine, FMJ/TMD Cranial Facial Pain Management, and Mindfullness Based Stress Reduction. Dr. Abramson has taught at the Osteopathic Medical School and with the Frymann Cranial Osteopathic Tutorials for numerous years. He is the director of the Stanford University Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction Clinic, which is run in conjunction with the Stanford University School of Medicine where he also serves as a Staff Physician.
Dr. Abramson also teaches at the Esalen Institute located in Big Sur, California, leads meditations, and is a black belt in Aikido. He has been married for thirty years to his wife Susan and has two daughters and a grandchild.
