Can you diagnose REM behavior disorder?

This question was asked in Chester, Virginia on 12/17/2012.
Over the past months I've occasionally talked, yelled, kicked, and jumped from the bed while sleeping. I believe I'm experiencing REM Behavior Disorder. Is there any way of diagnosing my condition?

Yes if this is the case you should be tested in a lab and treated in a lab by a sleep professional before any harm comes to you or possible a bed partner. Medications can be given to effectively treat this disorder.

Yes, an initial consultation with our board certified physician can determine if you need further evaluation via an overnight sleep study.

REM behavior disorder is usually diagnosed by taking a history from the patient. A board certified sleep doctor can tell you the likelihood of your having such a disorder. The timing of the event, the ease of arousal and the actions are all helpful in making the diagnosis. A sleep study is only helpful if the event occurs on a nightly basis.
