The amount of sleep you should get each night depends on your age and several other individual factors. However, the standard recommendation for an adult is 7-9 hours a night.

The amount of sleep you need is genetically determined. In other words, you are born with how much sleep you need. Some of us need 5-6 hours and some of us need 8-10 hours. The average is 7-9 hours. The amount of sleep you get is obviously affected by your job, your family and other factors which may result in sleep deprivation. So, healthiness from sleep varies from one individual to another.
