Yes. Treatment of Primary Insomnia is usually necessary as the sleep dysfunction starts in childhood and may be due to early stress and abuse. Treatment would include behavioral or pharmacotherapy.

Primary insomnia is often treated with a combination of cognitive behavioral therapy and medication for best results. Behavioral or psychological factors play an important part in primary insomnia. Counseling can help develop long-lasting coping strategies for these factors and for the insomnia itself. Sleep aids can provide temporary relief from primary insomnia until the new behavioral changes become effective.
