How can I get tested for sleep apnea?

This question was asked in Crossville, Tennessee on 05/28/2013.
I would like to get tested for sleep apnea but I do not have insurance. Is a physician's referral required in order to get tested? How can I go about getting a test for sleep apnea?

Your physician can refer you to a sleep disorder center for testing. Another option would be to contact a sleep disorder center directly and ask for a consultation with the Board Certified Sleep Specialist. He or she would then document your complaints, evaluate and refer you for testing and provide the advised treatment.

There are cash options available. You can call and schedule an appointment with a Board Certified Sleep Physician.

You can pay out of pocket for a sleep study, as with any medical procedure. A physician's referral however is required for this. Please call the center with any further questions.

You should get a referral from either your primary care physician or preferably seek out an evaluation by a sleep doctor.
